Clients must be residents of Burke County. Clients are served on the basis of need, income level, other available resources and special family circumstances at the moment.

Persons requiring help may apply directly in person during office hours. Applicants will be interviewed individually and confidentially to determine eligibility and what kind of help is needed.

Clients may also be referred for service by local authorities, pastors and social service organizations.

The Salvation Army of Greensboro's Center of Hope offers the following housing assistance: Emergency Shelter, Shelter to Success, Rapid Re-Housing, HOME Program, and the Housing Crisis Intervention Program Open 24 hours daily, the programs provide comprehensive support to sustain individuals and families to create an effective transition by rapidly re-housing clients into permanent housing. A valid, non-expired government issued photo ID, and a Social Security card (or government issued proof of Social Security number), or a birth certificate if no other ID is available are required In addition, married couples must show a marriage license, and proof of homelessness is required. Sex offenders and those with a criminal charge for a violent offense within the past year are not eligible To reapply, former clients must wait for three months from last stay if discharge was positive and six months if discharge was negative.

Shelter is open 24 hours daily. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm.
