FAN PROGRAM each summer for Dodge County residents, must qualify for low-income guidelines

CHRISTMAS FOOD distribution sign up November 1-December 9, 2011 for qualified persons

TOY SHOP offers toys, winter clothing, underwear, books, gifts, etc. for children ages birth to 15; sign up in November, distribution is in December; children enrolled in Toy Shop program are automatically enrolled in the bicycle drawing giveaway in December

PRESCRIPTION DRUG ASSISTANCE limited to new prescriptions; referrals from clinics or physicians; assistance limited to once a year; certain types of prescriptions excluded (pain medications, psychotropic, etc.); if a refill, must have a new written prescription from doctor

CLOTHING ASSISTANCE is available the first working day of the month for immediate needs and special consideration for children needing school clothing; vouchers which are redeemed at a Salvation Army Thrift Store, are limited to once every six months

FIRE VICTIM ASSISTANCE occurs after the American Red Cross has met the immediate crisis; partial replacement of destroyed belongings is offered; must provide paperwork showing assistance from American Red Cross

UTILITY ASSISTANCE for MUD (Metropolitan Utilities District) bills year round, for those over 60, disabled (proof of disability is required), and with special needs; must apply at Energy Assistance first; call the utility assistance phone number, listen to message for qualifications, leave name and number, and someone from the Salvation Army will return the call

FAN PROGRAM June 11-September 14 for people 50 and older, or with a documented disability or medical condition stating need for ventilation

ASSISTANCE FOR DEPOLYED MILITARY FAMILIES, or 'Heartland Fund', is available for families in need who have someone in military service who is currently deployed; funds may be used for child care expenses, material assistance, family enrichment programs; they have a list of volunteers who might help with car repairs, home repairs, lawn services, etc.

OPPD (Omaha Public Power District) sponsored energy assistance program operates year round, funds permitting, for clients in Burt, Colfax, Dodge, Washington, Saunders, Douglas, Sarpy, Cass, Otoe, Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee, and Richardson Counties; applications are taken two weeks of each month, call for an appointment dates; the program assists with OPPD bills only; clients must live in one of the listed counties and meet these guidelines:

ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES FOR OPPD INCLUDE: All clients must have made at least three regular payments to their utility bill in the last six months; additionally, they must either have a household member 62 years of age or older -OR- medical need for utilities as verified by a doctor - OR - household member recently lost a job through no fault of their own and can be verified - OR - proof of an unexpected expense (car repairs, appliance repair) and can show paid receipts for the expense

NPPD (Nebraska Public Power District) Pennies for Power Assistance Program, sponsored for NPPD customers in Nebraska and South Dakota October through April, funds permitting; applications are completed over the telephone, by calling 1-888-890-9569 toll free

ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES FOR PENNIES FOR POWER include must have made at least 3 regular payments to their NPPD account in the past 6 months, must be 62 years of age or older -OR-have a medical need as verified by a doctor -OR have proof of an unexpected expense (car repairs, appliance repair) that caused you to get behind on your utility bill
