To provide community-based emergency shelter and short-term temporary housing and support services for homeless youth in a safe and nurturing environment. In addition to providing emergency housing, Avenues for Homeless Youth address 5 primary goals for each youth: Obtain permanent housing, obtain employment, continue education, develop/maintain psychological well-being, and develop/maintain physical well-being.

Housing and Nutrition - Avenues for Homeless Youth provides a warm, nurturing home environment for young people who have no home and no consistent adult guidance and support. Case Management -Case Managers help youth obtain identification, medical insurance, long term housing, and address health, education, employment and psychological needs. Resource Connections/Referrals -Resources and community connections for individual needs such as pregnant youth, educational options, employment counseling and support groups. Wellness Checks - Mental health assessments and support as well as access to wellness checks. Recreational Activities - Internal recreation programs as well as opportunities for youth to become involved as volunteers in the community

Description
Emergency shelter and housing for single individuals in Anoka County: - - - Emergency shelter for 60 men and women up to seven nights. Longer stay determined on case by case basis. - - - Emergency housing for up to 90 days. Individuals can get into housing if they stay in the shelter and are willing to work on the issues that led them to be without housing. Pathways to Success is a 90 day five step program that focuses on helping individuals obtain permanent housing. - - - Cannot take pets except in the case of service dogs (does not take emotionally supportive pets). The individual will need a doctor's statement that it is medically/mentally necessary for the person to have the dog. Service dogs are allowed only if no other current residents or staff have pet allergies. Will refer others to the Anoka County Humane Society for possible placement.
