OVERVIEW: Provides crisis intervention services to homeless and low-income individuals and/or families who reside in the following Laurel zip codes: 20707, 20708, 20723, and 20724. - - SERVICES: - 1) EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE SERVICES: Provides advocacy, support and follow-up to individuals and families who are at risk for eviction or other housing-related crisis. Includes needs assessment and information & referral to appropriate community agencies. Must have an income (TCA/unemployment counts as income). - - 2) FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Offers limited funds to assist with eviction prevention including: short-term financial assistance to prevent evictions and utility stoppage; assistance with security deposits and first month’s rent. Provides financial assistance in 20707, 20708, 20723, 20724 area codes . Utility Assistance: Can help to apply for MEAP. - - 3) FOOD PANTRY: Food for those in need. Diapers and formula occasionally. - - 4) INFORMATION AND REFERRAL: Offers referrals to resources not provided by Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services. LARS has limited funds to assist homeless clients with obtaining ID cards and birth certificates, prescriptions and other minor health expenses, drug treatment, and mental health needs. Limited vouchers for eyeglasses, hearing aids, clothing and furniture; referrals for shelter; and a food pantry which can be utilized by clients every 30 days based on area codes 20707, 20708, 20723, 20724. Also accepts monetary donations as well as new clothing, food, toys, shoes, toiletries, coats, gloves, scarves and hats all year long. - - 5) HOLIDAY ASSISTANCE: Food and gifts for families who qualify. Priority is given to families who have been served by LARS in the past year. Fills fast. Registration opens in late Oct.
