*Crisis Intervention Fund Recipient - - OVERVIEW: Provides Housing Counseling, Financial Services, Food Pantry assistance, First-time Home Buyers Program, Seniors Program and Neighborhood Development (Rehab Homes). - - SERVICES: - 1) HOUSING SERVICES: Counsels applicants on budgeting and money management. Will also intervene with creditors to help applicants restructure their monthly debt repayment. Assists with first month's rent and emergency delinquent rental and mortgage assistance. - - 2) EMERGENCY SERVICES: Provides a 1 time per year emergency rent grant of up to $1000 to those facing a court-ordered eviction (will not assist with subsidized housing). Individuals must provide information in regards to a hardship and proof that their income will be able to sustain them after assistance. Also provides up to 3 days of emergency food, every 90 days to individuals and families, and refers applicants to the Housing Services counseling programs for training in budgeting and debt restructuring. - - 3) COMMUNITY ADVOCACY: Lobbies for legislation to improve services to the poor and remove barriers of economically-based discrimination. Also supports community initiatives that enhance living conditions in the County. - - 4) FOOD PANTRY: Provides non-perishable food items and occasionally offers perishable food. Appointment required. - - 5) SENIOR PROGRAM: Provides activities for seniors. - - 6) FIRST TIME HOME BUYERS PROGRAM: Provides home ownership education for first time home buyers. - - 7) NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT: Assists in stabilizing communities that suffer from foreclosures, abandonment and vacant homes. Provides green, affordable, healthy energy-efficient homes for low-to-moderate income homeowners. - - 8) SHEPHERD'S COVE EMERGENCY SHELTER: Provides Emergency Shelter for women and children in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The 100–bed emergency facility is a clean, safe and supportive environment operated by caring professionals. Individuals interested in gaining admittance in the shelter must contact the Prince George's County Homeless Hotline at 1-888-731-0999. Shelter residents will be eligible for three balanced and nutritious meals every day, free fully–equipped day care (for children 6 weeks – 5 years old), after–school program (for children 5 – 12 year old), permanent & transitional housing assistance, education & employment services, transportation assistance, assistance with medical needs and substance abuse support.

Helps families become independent of welfare support through work, personal responsibility, and community involvement FIP has a 5-year lifetime limit for benefits Clients are required to participate in work activities for a minimum of 25 hours per week, in exchange for temporary cash assistance, child care, training and emergency assistance.SERVICES:1) EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE TO FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN (EAFC): Provides emergency cash assistance to families with children It assists with court-ordered evictions, foreclosures, utility cut-offs, security deposits (must be homeless of have been evicted for the last 60 days), and burial assistance (up to $650) and may be used only once in a 24-month period Also available are funds for those who have experienced an official disaster (hurricane, flood or fire). 2) WELFARE AVOIDANCE GRANTS (WAG): Client, at caseworker's suggestion, can receive 3-12 months of cash assistance to avoid need for TCA.3) TEMPORARY CASH ASSISTANCE (TCA): Effective 14 days after application No increase in benefits for birth of another child. Child Specific Benefit will be provided through a 3rd party payee to purchase items for child's needs. Clients will receive letter regarding distribution date and location. Photo ID and proof of income are required.4) EDUCATION AND JOB-TRAINING PROGRAMS: ESOL is $50 per month for six months; GED preparation is $50 per month for six months; Introduction to Computers is $50 per month for six months; MOS Certification preparation is $50 per month for six months; A+ Certification preparation is $150 per month for six months; and Network+ Certification preparation is $150 per month for six months.5) FOOD PANTRY: Available for those in need.
