The Midnight Mission provides bathing facilities, mail facilities, a homeless shelter for women, and a safe sleep shelter.

The bathing facilities are available as needed for men, women, and children. There is also a beautician to assist the women till noon. There is a full barber service for men 3 times a week.

Their mail service is for anyone who wants to receive mail. The facility is usually for homeless people, but can be used by people without proper identification.

Their women's shelter provides shelter, meals, career training, case management, and other services.

Their safe sleep program offers shelter for hard-to-reach customers who tend to avoid shelter beds and require other basic needs. They provide a separate rooms designed just for families.

Description
The Hope Row Resource Center provides homeless support services for people of all ages primarily in the downtown Skid Row area. Services include case management, a community voice mail, general legal aid, housing search and information, specialized information and referral, mail and message services, remedial math and reading classes, a Veterans Administration representative, legal rights assistance for homeless families, and certificate/forms assistance. Income restrictions apply for some services.

The Community Voice Mail Programs provides free voicemail service to people without phones seeking jobs, housing, healthcare, safety, etc.

HIV counseling is provided for residential program participants who test positive for HIV.

Veterans services include case management, veterans benefits assistance, and specialized information and referral services.

General legal aid services are provided by staff from the Inner City Law Center.

The certificate/forms assistance is provided by the Hope Row Resource Center. The program provides application assistance for Social Security, Disability, Retirement and Medicare for individuals, homeless individuals, families with children who have special needs and individuals with special needs. The program also assists with applications for ID's other than a Drivers License and birth certificates. Vouchers are provided to pay for the ID and birth certificate.

There is also a transitional housing shelter for adults aged 18 to 64 who fit the following criteria:

* Homeless individuals who need assistance to break the cycle of homelessness.

* General Relief recipients who are on a 60 day penalty.

* Newly employed single adults or couples who are saving and seeking permanent housing.

* Borderline cases such as a single person on SSI who has not received his or her check.

* Individuals new to the Los Angeles area and waiting to fulfill the GR residency requirement.

* Employable individuals who are presently seeking employment.

* Individuals newly released from prison and referred by parole agents in Region III of the California Department of Corrections.

* Individuals requiring mental health evaluations or monitoring.

The shelter provides more than 500 beds in single, double, and dormitory-style rooms. Bathing and laundry facilities are provided. The length of stay varies, and the maximum stay is 24 months. Meals are not provided for some programs, so residents are referred to soup kitchens in the area. Residents must abide by shelter rules which prohibit the use of drugs and alcohol and includes a 12:00am curfew, although curfew exceptions can be made to accommodate work schedules. 24 hour security is provided.

Support services for the shelter include casework, budget counseling, mental health and recovery support, and welfare advocacy.

The center provides specialized transitional housing through its recuperative care, parolee and veterans programs, and referrals are required for these programs from county hospitals, social service agencies, HIV/AIDS-related agencies, the parole board, or the Veterans Administration.

For the shelter and its services, you must be an adult aged 18 to 64. There are no restrictions for the other services.

ID is preferred, but not required. Documentation of homelessness is required for eligibility. GR recipients must present proof of penalty; employed people must supply proof of employment; and SSI-eligible people should be able to document their eligibility and source of income.

Union Mission Homeless Shelter

Description
Provides shelter for single homeless men and women 18 years and older. The maximum length of stay in the emergency shelter is 30 nights for men, however, if they fail to show up one night, their bed will likely be given away. The program can accommodate up to 745 people; over 450 men and 190 single women beds are available in a dormitory-style settings. The program can also accommodate men in chairs in the chapel who may return as often as needed.


People may stay up to 15 days for free; at that time they may elect to join one of the Mission's Life Transformation case management programs or be referred to another shelter. Those who choose a case management program are charged a maximum of $7 a day for their bed, three meals a day, storage, life skills training and case management. A minimum of $2 of this fee is placed in a savings account for the participant that will be available for withdrawal when they leave the program. Parents with children are expected to save up to 50% of their funds received from government assistance. 100% of savings is returned upon withdrawal.

The mission also provieds a drop-in center for people in the Skid Row area of downtown Los Angeles. Services are available during the lunch time schedule from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. Services include laundry facilities, mail service, restrooms and shower facilities. The program may also assist with simple banking needs.

Hours
Intake hours for men are Monday through Sunday, 12:00pm. Men line up and beds are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Intake hours for single women are Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 6:30pm; Saturday and Sunday, 12:00pm to 6:30pm on a first-come, first-served basis.

Drop in shelter and shower facility hours are from 12 pm to 3 pm.
