Description
The Blaine County Hunger Coalition strives to end hunger in their community by providing wholesome food to those in need and by promoting solutions to the underlying causes of hunger through collaboration, education and advocacy.

The Hunger Coalition is working with Blaine County School District social workers in each of the schools to target children that are chronically hungry or in the midst of a family crisis.  In order to feed hungry students over the weekends, donated packpacks are filled with shelf-stable, child-friendly and easy to prepare foods that children can bring home to prepare for themselves and their siblings. This program helps prevent some of the tragic implications of childhood hunger including chronic health problems and a decrease in learning potential, academic achievement and employment potential. Mitigating these challenges is not just an investment for their benefit, but for the entire community.Program:Summer Food ProgramBudget: NaNCategory: Population Served: Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.) Program Description: During the summer months, children in Blaine County are able to count on more than just hot weather - hot food! The Hunger Coalition and Blaine County School District team up to bring the Lunch Connection, a free summer food pilot program to Woodside Elementary. All children, ages 1 to 18, are welcome to come for nutritious meals.
