Description
Weekend Backpack Program provides bags of supplemental food to food insecure children in the Vermillion school district area during the school year. Arrangements can be made for the Backpacks (pre-packed food sacks) to be picked up at the child's school (Headstart - Middle school), or food can be packed at Tanager Take Out (the food pantry located at the high school).Summer Backpack Program Distribution:3:00pm - 5:30pm, every Thursday at Tanager Take Out (the food pantry located at the high school)Families must sign-up once a year for the backpack food program, and may sign-up at any time during the year.Please complete this online form: https://thinkcaliber.wufoo.com/forms/z1pdxur417isnn6/Vermillion School Supply Distribution provides free school supplies, including backpacks, to Vermillion area students before the start of each school year. Provides assistance with:Lunch: 12:00noon - 12:30pm, Monday - Friday - open to all. No cost, although donations accepted.Food pantry: A 2-3 day supply of food, available for individuals or families. Can use once every 90 days.Senior Box program: Visit during business hours for more informationClothing: Vouchers available by meeting with a case workerUtilities: Assistance available for water, lights, or electric heat. Available up to 1 time a year, must have a disconnection notice.Prescriptions: Assistance available once every 90 days.Rent: Assistance is available once a yearOther needs: varies based on abilityDiapers: Available based on donationsGas money: May be available, strictly for Aberdeen residents and only for a doctor's appointment in Sioux FallsSpiritual supportAfter school program: 3:00pm - 6:00pm, Monday - Friday, when school is in session. For those in Kindergarten - 5th grade, access to computers for homework, games, etc. No transportation provided.School supplies: applications are typically after the 4th of July and extend for a week. To get an application, go to SA office. People on SNAP automatically qualify. People who qualify receive a card that need to bring that to the distribution date (typically couple weeks before school starts). Students are also given a brand new pair of shoes. Holiday Assistance: Meals: 12:00pm - 1:00pm, Wednesday before Thanksgiving and Christmas Christmas baskets of food - Families who apply can get gifts as well (child has to be in the home, only one application per household). Single individuals also welcome to apply for a basket.
