They were established in 1955 as a home for needy women. Through the years they have continued to offer effective programs to meet their needs. Their residents are homeless, many have substance abuse problems, some are abused and some are the abusers; some are out of income and resources. All are out of options. Evangel Home is a Christian ministry that believes in the worth of each individual and in the power of Jesus Christ to restore broken lives. They believe that each women must learn to take responsibility for her life and their programs are aimed to help them become victors rather than to remain victims of harsh circumstances. Their basic philosophy is that they are most effective focusing on one woman 1,000 ways rather than 1,000 women one way. They operate the following ftheir distinct programs:
1. Emergency crisis shelter - 28 days for women and children. Can accommodate 24 residents. Provides shelter, food, clothing, referrals for jobs and housing, counseling and chapel. Structured safe environment.
2. CrossRoads - living skills program. Women, with or without children, have their own apartment in this structured 9-month program. Classes include parenting, Bible study, anger management, finances, and a Christian 12-step program.
3. GARDEN. This is a 9-month program designed as an alternative to prison. Women are court ordered or self referred to this program. No children in this highly-structured program.
4. Community Connection is an on-campus progam for graduates of either of the 9-month progams. Graduates may live here up to an additional 12 months and must be working or in school.
In addition to their progams, they offer on-site child care for their residents.
