Program Description: Free food and backpacks are provided through their Food For Kids program to over 600 public schools in Arkansas. A backpack filled with simple to prepare kid friendly food is given to children who are experiencing problems at school due to hunger at home. This program that was conceived by Arkansas Rice Depot in 1995 has now been replicated in over 40 states throughout the United States. In the 2007-2008 school year they were able to help feed 23,700 students in the state of Arkansas.Program:Food For SeniorsBudget: NaNCategory: Population Served: Aging/Elderly/Senior Citizens Program Description: At least 50 pounds of food and household supplies are delivered each month to homebound senior citizens through their Food For Seniors program. After rent and utilities, the average money left for their seniors to buy groceries, clothing, medicine and all other needs totals $79, and some have only $25. This program currently consists of delivery to 50 seniors in the Pulaski County area, with plans to expand in 2009.Program:Arkansas Rice Depot Disaster CenterBudget: NaNCategory: Population Served: General Public/Unspecified Program Description: Free food and relief supplies are distributed through their Arkansas Disaster Relief Center to any Arkansas hunger agency or community assisting disaster victims.
