APLA Health – Olympic

Description
The APLA Health provides free to low-cost services for people of all ages who live in Los Angeles County. Some services are restricted to registered clients only. Some services are restricted to registered clients of the agency. Services include advocacy, AIDS drug assistance program (ADAP), HIV/AIDS/STD prevention kits, bereavement support groups, case/care management, comprehensive outpatient substance use disorder treatment, crisis intervention, dental care, dental screenings, disease/disability information, health education, health/disability related support groups, home health care, nutrition education, prescription drugs for specific health conditions, psychodynamic therapy, special diet food and specialized information and referral.

Case/care management services are available and provide integration of services for a client based on a service plan. Clients may receive dental care, emergency food assistance from the agency's food pantry, health education, nutrition counseling, work services, and benefits assistance. The food pantry, NOLP, offers special diet food that meet the needs of people with HIV/AIDS. The program also collaborates with other HIV/AIDS programs throughout the county to provide this special pantry service for people living with HIV/AIDS. Call the designated number if information on NOLP hours and service locations.

Mental health services include crisis intervention, assessment counseling, substance abuse prevention assistance, and specialized referrals to additional services.

Spouses of clients or people living with HIV/AIDS may also apply for support and counseling; support groups are available.

Adults and teens who have HIV/AIDS and who are involved with alcohol or drug abuse or who have a problem with any addictive behavior (including eating or using sex addictively) may be involved in an individual counseling and support group. Mutual peer support groups are provided for people with HIV/AIDS and their families. Special groups for women are also available.

The agency also offers the HIV/AIDS PrEP program that provides pre-exposure treatment for people who have high-risk HIV/AIDS exposure. PrEP includes a daily medication to reduce the risk of HIV infection.
The center enrolls patients for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), which provides FDA-approved HIV-related drugs at little or no cost to those who fit the criteria. Call for more information.

Home health services provide and include medical case management, psychosocial services, and attendant care in the home. Other services available to registered members of APLA include transportation to and from doctor's appointments, bus passes, and treatment advocacy.
